Paris Brown’s Folly

Once again, the morally sanctimonious British media have claimed another victim. I’m speaking about Paris Brown, the UK’s first Youth Crime Commissioner.

First of all there’s a lot of aspects of this story that are a bit ridiculous – chief among them is the fact a position of Youth Crime Commissioner  was even created in the first place – and it paid a somewhat generous annual salary of 15,000 pounds ($22,000) to get a young person’s input on policing issues. Couldn’t the police simply have had quarterly Town Hall meetings with various youth from around the community and pick their brains? Did they really need to create a position of Youth Crime Commissioner? Maybe this was Kent Police Commissioner Ann Barnes’ feeble attempt to try and garner publicity and a bit of fame for herself and it backfired in her face.

Anyhow the Daily Mail newspaper decided to do what newspapers often do – ignore real newsworthy stories and create their own.  So a reporter decided to look into the past tweets of seventeen year old Paris Brown – the aforementioned newly installed Youth Crime Commissioner.  And I’m assuming the reporter, thinking they had inadvertently stumbled upon the greatest scandal since Watergate, decided to try and bring the career of Britain’s first youth crime commissioner to an abrupt and sordid end.

What evil revelations and directives were tweeted by Ms Brown when she was between the ages of 14 and 16 years old………um…….she swore……..tweeted about sex and drugs and used some politically incorrect and somewhat offensive language to describe immigrants and homosexuals. Damn! First of all I’m absolutely shocked that a teenager had the audacity to swear! Or tweet about being drunk and taking drugs. What teenager does that…………..oh a lot…………..my bad!

This is a perfect example of why REAL people do not get involved with politics and why the political process is left to a few people from well-connected and often corrupt families who have absolutely nothing in common with the vast majority of people they hope to one day govern. Who in their right mind would want to put themselves through this crap!

Sorry to break it to the Daily Mail but what their well funded news gathering organization came across was nothing more than a teenager doing stupid and silly things – in other words being a teenager! I’m not by any means saying that all teenagers engage in underage drinking or take drugs, or use inappropriate language to refer to other people. I’m also not condoning such behavior. But I believe my brain cells are intact enough for me to sufficiently deduce that such behavior demonstrated during one’s teen years doesn’t necessarily lead to a lifetime of being a terrible, degenerate. In other words, people do stupid things in their youth and then they grow up! Yes I’m speaking to all of the LSD taking hippies from the sixties who now run the corporate world!

I don’t know what kind of job Paris Brown would have done in her newly created position. She may have excelled. Or she could have sucked! Regardless, we’ll never know as the pressure on her to resign finally caused her to do just that – less than one week in the job.

Thank you Daily Mail! With North Korea posturing in Asia, Europe’s economy on the brink and Kim Kardashian having a hard time trying to shake Kris Humphries – at least I know I can count on you to provide me with ‘real’ news. Good job!
